Bringing money for attending funeral is kinda strange except in Japan

In Japan, we bring money to attend funeral.
When people die, mainly we have two ceremonies, one is funeral wake and the other one is funeral.
When we hear somebody who you know die, we go to funeral wake or funeral, or both if you are very close to the person.

When we attend the funeral wake or funeral, we bring condolence money for funeral.
It is usually 5000 yen ($41.80) or above and you receive gift in return for funeral offering.

The condolence money is packed in a paper bag and you write down your name, address and amount on it. This is tradition for Buddhism and Shinto but for Christian, of course.
