Let’s go to traditional Japanese style houses!

The remote mountain villages of gassho-style houses in Shirakawa-go and Gokayama on the Hida Highlands were registered as cultural heritage sites in 1995.

Houses built in the "gassho style". Gassho-style means "constructed like hands in prayer", as the farmhouses' steep thatched roofs resemble the hands of Buddhist monks pressed together in prayer.

Some of those houses are used for residential houses, hotels, restaurants. You can see how Japanese people have lived in those houses. You will feel the deep tradition of Japan in those sites.
