Sports Day, Sports Festival, UNDO-KAI in Japan

Sports Day, Sports Festival called UNDO-KAI is an event held by many shools and offices in which people take part in competitive sporting activities, often with the aim of winning trophies or prizes. This event for school is usually held in autumn or spring.

Games that are played on shool sports days can be wide and varied. Undokai called in Japanese is usually held on Saturday or Sunday and parents can come and visit.On this day, some parents go to school very early in the morning to get a best seat to watch their kids and mother make a big and nice bento lunch box for them. Kids love to eat this lunch with other friends and family together during sports day.

Before this sports day, Undo-kai, kids practice their events which they would like to show their parents and friends, within their class of physical education, which often includes Tamaire, the ball toss game,performances by the school band and presentations by various school clubs as well as individual group competitive events.

Do practice a lot or Play Game a lot?

There are some difference between foreign club team and Japanese sports club team such as baseball or basketball for kids.

A big difference is that Japanese club teams do practice a lot comparing with other country’s teams.

For example, baseball team, Japanese club teams have practice on Sunday from 9am to 5pm with one hour break. They keep practicing for about seven hours.

On the other hand, foreign teams tend to consider playing game is more important.

Spending at field for seven hours is not easy for kids but it is not easy for parents who are attendants.

Japanese loves face towel because they are so useful in any occasion.

People in Japan hung a face towel on their neck and walking in a town. Why? Because they can wipe their sweat anytime they want, they can keep their neck warm, maybe too hot in summer but after taking off the towel, it is so cool and makes us very comfortable.

Kure Maritime Museum, the Yamato Museum in Hiroshima

The Yamato museum,Kure Maritime Museum is located Kure City,Hiroshima and established in 2005. It is called Yamato Museum since they display the large model ship YAMATO, a 1/10 scale model of the battleship, YAMATO.

Kure city’s history began in 1902 when Kure was incorporated after the formation of the Kure Naval Base in 1898. In 1903, the Kure Naval Dockyard was established where the technology of shipbuilding and steelmaking were dramatically advanced. The city proposed as Kure became the best naval port in the far east, and the biggest arsenal town in Japan. Many ships were build here and the most famous one is the battleship YAMATO.

This museum, you can learn not only the war but also the history of Kure city, the technological success of shipbuilding and the life style of the people in the Navy and those living in Kure during the war.
